Our first stop takes us to the wonderful parks of Minneapolis. Two parks offer free Movies In The Park. The season starts in June at Stevens Square Park. In July, the Loring Park location begins its free movies and music. Music starts the evenings at around 7pm with movies beginning at dusk (approximately 8:45). Many people of all ages come to the shows bringing along picnic baskets, blankets and chairs. It is always brings such a sense of community to the neighborhood.

Next, let's take a walk. If you are the type that likes to keep moving and learning, then a walking tour is just what the doctor ordered. The Minneapolis Heritage Preservation offers free walking of many historic and interesting locations such as Elliot Park, The Grain Belt Brewery, and The Minneapolis City Hall. These tours are guided so not only will you get to spend a warm summer evening outside but you will also learn about the history of the sites. The tours are first come, first served so be sure to get there early so you aren't left out of the fun.

Finally, if you are more of the party/festival type the Aguatennial is the perfect free local activity. The Aquatennial is a 10 festival that takes place thoughout the city of Minneapolis all at once. There are parades, block parties, and fireworks, just to name a few of the many events. And you can not forget the Milk Carton Boat races! Nothing beats watching several teams try and race on thier boats made from milk cartons (they never get very far!). It's a good thing its free because you couldn't pay for those kind of laughs.
