Rhode Island (The Ocean State) is the smallest state in the US. There are many things that you can do as far as recreational activities are concerned and some you may even attend them with an empty wallet. Here is an example of a beautiful way to spend an evening in the city of Providence, Rhode Island.

WaterFire Providene

WaterFire takes place in downtown Providence. It was created by a man named Barnaby Evans in Providence, Rhode Island. WaterFire centers on approximately 100 bonfires that are set just above the surface of the three rivers in downtown Providence. The string of fires lights up to nearly two-thirds of a mile. It consists of up to 100 bonfires that burn just above the surface of the three rivers that pass through the middle of downtown Providence in Waterplace Park. The rivers are the Woonasquatucket, the Moshassuck, and the Providence River. Waterfire is also accompanied with world and classical music, sometimes with live performances. Waterfire began in 1994; events continue to be scheduled on an approximately biweekly basis in the summer months.

Waterfire is a breath-taking display. It is a place where you can see something beautiful amongst crowds of people. It is a time to put aside the worries of the day and enjoy the beauty in life amongst peers. I would especially recommend this attraction to anyone who enjoys hearing the crackling of the fires and the smell of the wood burning in the crisp fresh air. Waterfire can be quite chilly considering it is based outdoors. Depending on the night that you decide to go, my advice is to listen to the weather forecast and bring a sweatshirt or jacket along just in case. Waterfire is a wonderful display that should be experienced by everyone atleast once in their lifetime. If you happen to be in Providence or any other city in Rhode Island during the summer months, you should give it a go, you just may enjoy yourself!
