If you knew you were getting fifteen hundred dollars back on your tax return, would you be willing to throw three hundred of it away? Well, that's what you do when you use those quick tax loan services.

The IRS offers a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA) yearly. This service is geared toward helping low to moderate income households who can't prepare their own taxes.

You may call 1-800-829-1040 for a free tax preparation center near you.

If you live in Northeast Dallas, the Ferguson Road Initiative sponsors a VITA center at New Hope Lutheran Church, located at 2835 Peavy road. Preparation times are Tuesdays 6pm to 9pm and Saturdays 10am to 4pm. But if you're not in Northeast Dallas please call 800-829-1040.

When you go to a free tax preparation site, please bring the following with you:

· A copy of last year's tax return, if available;
· picture ID;
· social security cards or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) cards/letters for you, members of your
· household, dependents and anyone who provided childcare;
· W-2s, 1099s, or any other wage, salary and income statements including unemployment compensation;
· And your bank account and routing information, if available (a voided check will provide this information).
· If you are filing your taxes with a spouse, you must both be present.

Check out more information about VITA centers at http://www.irs.gov.
