Free Things to Do in Alexandria, Minnesota

I grew up in Minnesota, but have only lived near Alexandria for a year. And you know what? I've never been bored! Between great places to eat, fun places to shop, and all kinds of fairs and festivals, you can't help but stay busy!

Art in the Park- Coming up this weekend! July 25th and 26th- spend time outside viewing wonderful, one-of-a-kind artwork, live entertainment and enjoy delicious food! Shuttle service is offered from the fairgrounds in Alexandria, which is highly recommended due to the high attendance and traffic. The only cost here would be $1.00 each way. View http://www.alexandriaareaarts.org/artinthepark.html for more information. See you there!

Trails and Parks- Whether you enjoy running, walking, hiking, biking, or rollerblading, there are many trails and parks to choose from! The Central Lakes Trail is one of my favorites, which stretches for 55 miles from Osakis to Fergus Falls and offers beautiful scenery and 'stop spots' for picnics or using the restroom- just make sure to bring your camera!

Ruby Hill Gallery- Located in Carlos, Minnesota, this offers something for the artsy folk. Set up an appointment to visit and view jewelry, pottery, artwork, and much more from local artists! Your only cost comes if you decide to bring something home. Find out more at http://rubyhillgallery.com/default.aspx.

Tastefully Simple- Okay, this is definitely my favorite! This business started out in just a small garage and has grown into a multi-billion dollar 'empire'! Their headquarters is located in Alexandria, Minnesota, and if you call you can get a free, very informative, FUN tour! The founders started out with nothing and now have anywhere from 25 to 30 thousand consultants that sell their products. Even better, maybe you'll meet a consultant at a tour you attend and get an invitation to a party! You'll be hooked once you try the food! Refer to www.tastefullysimple.com for more info. You won't be disappointed!

Carlos Creek Winery- Do you enjoy spending time outside? Do you savor the taste of fine wine? Carlos Creek Winery offers free tours and wine sampling! You get to be outdoors and see just how the wine is produced. They also have live music during the summer, and will do group tours as well. One of the largest apple orchards and vineyards in Minnesota- YUM! Visit http://www.carloscreekwinery.com/ for more info.
