Free Things to Do in the Asheville North Carolina Area

In Ashville North Carolina There are many great things to do, and here are some free things that you and your family can do when you are trying to have a great time on a vacation while still watching your pennies.

Visit and drive through the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in Ashville. You can drive through the park, stop and have picnic lunches, see nature up close. There are some fees that the park does charge for example if you camp and spend the night but most of the things that you can do there is free.

Linville Falls Right off the Blue Ridge Parkway you will find the Lineville Falls. There is a trail that you have to walk to see the falls but it is well worth the walk to see these beautiful falls.

The Blue Ridge Parkway - You can drive the scenic route around Ashville where you can stop and pull over on the side of the road and enjoy nature and have a picnic lunch. The best time to do this trip is in the fall when you can see the leaves change color and see all the vibrant colors of the mountains that surround the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Botanical Gardens of Ashville has over 600 different species of plants and flowers. There are uncommon plants and endangered species there. The best time to visit is April or May when most of the plants and flowers are in full bloom, but it's beautiful any time of year to visit. You will be walking about a half of mile loop that you can see the plants and flowers. They do have a gift shop there.

Visit Carl Sandburg House, the poet, writer and author and recipient of two Pulitzer prizes. You can visit the house for free you can walk the trails and see the barn and the outside of the house. If you want a guided tour of the house it will be a small fee. But its still a great place to stop and visit and give your children a quick lesson along the way.

Estes-Winn Memorial Automobile Museum that has a collection of classic vehicles that you can walk through and see this is free to the public and you can see over 20 vehicles there.

At the Pisgah Center of Wildlife Education you can see exhibits on wild animals in the North Carolina Mountains and you may be able to even feed some of the mountain trout. This is a great educational experience for the whole family.

These are just a few of the things you can do while in the Asheville area there are always events going on all the time that you can do for free there. There are many ways that you can save on your vacation and finding free things to do is just one of them.
