How to Save Money on Your Trip to Georgia

Make "Hot" Atlanta your next travel destination spot for the family. With the high cost of gas and travel expense, why not save some money by going to tourist sites that are free and are easy on the pocketbook? Atlanta, Georgia is a melting pot filled with culture, history, and fun sites for the entire family. Atlanta's sweet southern charm and hospitality is a delightful treat for tourists.

The first free hot spot in Atlanta is the Fernbank Science Center. This destination is a nice educational outing for the family. It is located right next to Fernbank Elementary and is right outside of downtown Atlanta. The Exhibit Hall and the forest are free to the public. The Exhibit Hall has an upper and lower level. On the upper level, the exhibits are of a permanent nature and are presented in an open-air diorama format that involves the visitor in this exciting "adventure." The lower exhibit hall is where Fern Bank has its temporary display area with changing/ traveling exhibits.

Another free activity that is available at the Fernbank Science Center is the forest. There are certain hours in which the forest is available to the public. The Fernbank Forest is a 65-acre tract of relatively undisturbed mature mixed hardwood forest. It is a small remnant of the type of forest vegetation that originally covered the Piedmont region of Georgia, including the Atlanta metropolitan area. Visitors will have an opportunity to experience the beauty of the forest just like the explorers and Native Americans did hundreds of years ago.

The second free attraction is the Martin Luther King (MLK) Center. The MLK Center is a marvelous attraction that is filled a wealth of with history on the Civil Rights Movement. According the MLK Center Website, "The King Center is the official, living memorial dedicated to the advancement of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., leader of America's greatest nonviolent movement for justice, equality and peace." Every year, the center draws in millions of visitors from all over the world.

The next free destination in Atlanta is Stone Mountain Park. Even though there is a fee for parking, your family can still experience the natural beauty of this historic park. Stone Mountain has a stunning lake and picnic areas. Your can also enjoy the nature trails and mountain hike at no cost. And an added treat is watching the spectacular Laser Show at night time.

The last free tourist destination is Piedmont Park. Piedmont Park is located in downtown Atlanta, near the Midtown and Buckhead area. Piedmont is the city's favorite in-town park for hosting a variety of events and activities. There are many free festivals that take place in the park such as the National Black Arts Festival and The Jazz Festival.

There are many wonderful places that you can tour and visit in Atlanta. Atlanta has a lot to offer with its deep rooted southern history and charm. Yes, there are some free tourist attractions that you and your family would enjoy and with the free cost you will not be disappointed.
