The Dale Earnhardt Statue - While this isn't in Charlotte it is only about a half hour away from Charlotte in Kannapolis North Carolina, Dale Earnhardt's home town. Here you will be able to see the statue of him in the center of Cannon Village. Cannon Village is another unique place to visit. It's a nice brick lined road of old time stores.
Charlotte Trolley Museum is another free place that you can visit. Here you will learn about the streetcars and see the trolley, if you want to ride the trolley you will have a small fee but this is worth the price to ride the trolley.
In the summer you can visit the Summer Pops at South Park You can have the outdoor symphony play for you several times during g the summer. The concerts are held around the Charlotte area. Bring your lawn chairs and settle back to enjoy a night of music and friends.
Reed Gold Mine On the outskirts of Charlotte there is a gold mine, Reeds Gold Mine where you can learn about the First discovery of Gold in America. You can visit the mine for free, but if you want to Pan for gold and try your luck there is a small charge for the pan.
North Carolina Transportation Museum is about an hour away from Charlotte but it has many classic vehicles like trains, old police cars and a day of fun that you will enjoy. It is right outside of the Historic town of Salisbury and you will have a pleasant drive from Charlotte to the North Carolina transportation Museum. View restored Trains, and rail cards, you will see exhibits of railroad items and even a covered wagon. For a small fee you can even ride an Amtrak Train to Salisbury and then ride a bus back to the Museum. This is very educational and fun for the whole family.
When you are going on vacation you don't have to spend a lot of money to make memories with your family. You can have fun doing some free things while you are on vacation.
