Whether you are a visitor to Houston or been a resident for years, finding free things to do in the city as well as finding something that the whole family will enjoy can be a bit overwhelming. But not to fear; here are four places in Houston that are not only family friendly but are also free!

Discovery Green Park

Located in downtown, Discovery Green is one of the most spectacular parks in Houston, which provide a full day entertainment for the entire family. Children will have fun playing inside the shaded playground area as well as getting sprayed in the Gateway Fountain. You can view various art sculptures, play free games, including shuffleboard, horseshoes, and putting green and can even take in a concert at the amphitheater. Miller Outdoor Theatre

Miller Outdoor Theatre is located in Hermann Park and brings the best in diverse performances in the city. Everything from classical to jazz, ballet, and musicals are spotlighted at Miller and they are all family oriented. The Water Wall

The Water Wall at Williams Tower in the Galleria is a great place to take a stroll and view the beautiful atmosphere with flowing water escalating throughout multiple walls throughout the area. Shaded trees and spacious greens are located near the wall, which is a perfect setting for a picnic. The Water Wall is simply breathtaking at night, which is wonderful for a photo op.

Sam Houston Boat Tour

Located at the Houston Ship Channel, The Sam Houston Boat Tour is a 90 minute sail which starts from the port's Sam Houston Pavilion and sail along the Houston Ship Channel. Food or beverages are not allowed on the boat, but complimentary drinks will be served to every passenger during the sail. To enjoy a free sail around the ship channel, a reservation has to be made 24 hours in advance and photo identification will need to be provided for passengers 18 and up to go onto the boat.
