With the current economic crunch, people are rediscovering the hidden treasures of their hometown. The best thing of all - most of them are free! Concerts, festivals, classes, seminars, books, and food - all free for the asking. Lafayette, Colorado is no exception. Lafayette provides numerous free resources and activities for its residents year-round.

No matter what your tastes or preferences are, you're bound to find something to do for free in Lafayette.

Summer Concert Series - This an annual free July concert series held either at Wanaka Lake Park or Festival Plaza . Bring a chair and come hear a variety of family friendly music. Art Night Out - Come view artistic sculptures and meet the artists who created them. Held on various Fridays in summer along Public Road in Old-Town. It runs from 6 to 10 PM. Register for free drawings or get discounts at local businesses. Consult the Lafayette Cultural Arts webpage for dates.

Lafayette Peach Festival - Come celebrate everything peach! Colorado grown Western-slope peaches will be found in every form at this annual festival. Bring the family and a wagon. You may be lucky enough to leave with a bushel of fresh organic peaches from Morton's Orchards. There will be two performance stages, arts & crafts, a Farmer's Market, and plenty of kids activities. Bring the sunscreen and a hat.

Celebrate Lafayette - Come celebrate everything great about living in Lafayette. Come for the parade and stay for the activities. Celebrate Lafayette has been a community tradition since 1956. Held in September in Old-Town Lafayette. Free live entertainment.

Family Fun Fest - This new Lafayette festival offers kid-friendly games and activities. There are lawn games, plays, music, and food. The Boulder Valley YMCA offers ice-skating at its indoor facility. The event is capped by a family friendly concert. Bring your chairs, blankets, and dance shoes.

Public Safety Day for Kids - This annual event in July gives kids a chance to meet local and regional law enforcement and firefighters. There are usually fire trucks, police cars, a helicopter, and numerous other vehicles. Come to LaMont Does Park for free food, free pool admission, and free demonstrations.

Lafayette Farmer's Market & Bluegrass music - The Farmers Market is held every Thursday at Festival Plaza in Old-Town from 4pm-Dusk. On select nights there is live bluegrass music starting around 6 PM. The market runs from May through October.

Coal Creek/Rock Creek Trail - Come explore this extensive trail system by bicycle or by foot. This unpaved trail winds from east of Lafayette to Louisville and onward. The trail is shaded where it runs along Coal Creek and has a few picnic areas. A wonderful natural resource for all ages. http://www.cityoflafayette.com/page.asp?navid=1161

LaMont Does Park - Come enjoy this well equipped public park. Facilities include: two tennis courts, basketball court, soccer field, sand volleyball court, an outdoor swimming pool (fee), ball field, picnic gazebo, and kids playground area. Open daily sunrise to sunset. Located on South Boulder Road.

Lafayette Dog Park - Bring your pup to one of Lafayette's favorite attractions. Your canines can romp and play to their hearts content. There are a few rules to give everyone a fun, safe, experience. Festival Plaza
- come enjoy this new addition right in the center of Old-Town Lafayette. It has a water feature that kids will enjoy playing in on those really hot days. There are free lunchtime concerts on select Wednesdays during the summer, the Farmers Market on Thursdays, the Summer Concert Series.

Lafayette Library - Check out the resources at Lafayette's library. They have an extensive collection of DVD's, CD's, and ebooks available for checkout. Audio books and music can even be downloaded from home. Children can come for homework help or story time. Many free classes are also offered. Schedule of events.

Lafayette Miners Museum - Come learn about Lafayette's early history. Did you know there was extensive coal mining in the region? Learn about it and life in Lafayette a hundred years ago. Open 2-4 PM on Thursdays, Saturdays, or by appointment.

Healthy living and Alternative Medicine classes - Free educational classes and seminars at the Lafayette Vitamin Cottage. All are free. Held throughout the year.

National Parks and Recreation Month - The Lafayette Recreation Department offers a list of free recreational things to do every day in July. Check out the schedule and get going.
