Free Things to Do in Las Vegas and Southern Nevada

Have Fun for Free

Drew Bush
I know it can be hard to find fun things to do that don't cost a lot of money. It seems that just about everything costs money: going to the movies, bowling, staying at hotels, going to the restaurant, etc. But wait, what if I told you that there are fun things to do in Southern Nevada that don't cost any money? One does not have to spend a lot of money to have a good time with family and friends. Here are some things you can do to have a good time in Boulder City, Las Vegas, and surrounding areas in Southern Nevada.

Hiking

There are many areas to hike around Southern Nevada. You can hike the River Mountain Loop Trail that snakes its way around the Lake Mead National Recreation Area just twenty to thirty minutes from Las Vegas and five minutes from Boulder City. It is free of charge and you can see some beautiful mountain, city, and lake views. Also, there are many beautiful desert plants and wildlife. Make a picnic out of it. Bring sandwiches and several goodies from home. Other areas to hike around Southern Nevada include the Wetlands in East Las Vegas, the dry lakebed five miles to the southwest of Boulder City, and areas within the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. There is a fee to get inside the park, but there are areas to hike just before the toll area.

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is one of Southern Nevada's premier destinations. It is just thirty minutes from Las Vegas. One can see some of the most magnificent views of Hoover Dam without spending one cent. There are sidewalks that people can walk on and see the dam from several different angles. There are also views of Lake Mead and the Colorado River. Also at the dam is a beautiful memorial which is dedicated to the workers that created the dam. While there is a tour at the dam that costs $30 dollars, one does not have to take it to see all the wonders of Hoover Dam.

DowntownBoulderCity

Boulder City is a beautiful and quaint little town about twenty minutes southeast of Las Vegas. It has a beautiful and historical downtown sector where there are numerous shops and parks. You can walk through downtown and enjoy the sites and sit at benches and tables and enjoy the fresh air. Visit the several well maintained parks that dot the town. Veterans Memorial Park has walking trails, a playground for kids, a baseball field, and a water park. Also onsite is a manmade lake where you can feed the many birds that swim there.

Las Vegas Strip and Freemont Street Experience

When people think of the Las Vegas Strip, they think of the gambling, shops, and expensive restaurants. People can go to the strip and enjoy it without spending one cent. Just park somewhere nearby and walk the sidewalks that line the street. Enjoy the magnificent views of the several hotels. If you go at night, you can enjoy the beautiful lightshow.

The Freemont Street Experience has been around for many years and it provides a truly mesmerizing light show. Millions of little neon lights give off a wonderful 3-D experience. The show is different everyday. If you bring kids, they will be mesmerized by the light show.

Come to Southern Nevada and have a great time without spending one penny on entertainment.
