Doing Things for Free Near Walt Disney World, Not in the Parks

Chad R. Herman
Unbeknownst to most, there are a number of things you can do in the great Disney complex that is Disney World for absolutely free. No matter the economy in which you're experiencing, we are all looking for something to do for very little money. If you can't afford, or don't want to pay the fee to get into the parks themselves, and you're ok with spending very little money, these are perfect. These ideas will fit into everyone's budget, even those who are on the verge of broke.

Take a boat Ride

Many people have seen or have heard about the boats that connect the resorts of the Disney World complex, but what most don't know is that they are free to anyone. There is a complex waterway taxi service that Disney has created in their man made lakes. It's a nice boat ride in the lap of luxury and man made beauty.

The first of these is the boats that take people from Epcot, to the Swan and Dolphin resorts, the Disney Boardwalk, and The Yacht club. You can park at the Yacht club or any of the resorts mentioned above, walk through the resort, and there is a complete waterway. Walk up to any of the boat launches, and away you go.

The second of these is the trip from MGM to Epcot. This ride will take you to all the resorts in between and the parks themselves. If nothing else, it's a nice ride.

The third is the ride from Wilderness lodge, to Fort Wilderness and the Contemporary Resort.

Take a monorail ride

Drive to any of the Magic Kingdom resorts (Contemporary, Polynesia, and Grand Floridian). There are Monorail stops at each of these. Hop on and ride about. Once you get to the transportation center, you can even hop on another monorail that will whisk you off to Epcot. Yes, you're not going into the park, but the monorail does and then it drops you outside the park.

((Insiders info)) - If you ask one of the attendants, they will let you sit in the front of the monorail. Right in the front of the monorail, right next to the pilot. This si just a fun ride for all. Then everyone gets a "Monorail pilot license". What a great souvenir for all ages.

Play at a resort

All of the Disney resorts have a ton of things going on. No only are you on Disney property, you're in a Disney resort. They don't want you to leave the resort and go into Orlando, so they entertain as best they can at the resorts themselves.

Every resort has at least 3 pools, and guests are never asked for id's or room numbers. I wouldn't walk into the resort with your swimsuit on, but in reality, why not. Many of the tourists do this all the time, and who says you're not a paying guest. These pools are made in as grand fashion as the entire Disney resort, so you have watersides coming out of rocks, waterfalls with bathrooms behind them, and $5 drinks for the adults.

Check the website for each resort and they will give you an entire itinerary of shows that are going on. In addition, there are always hula hoop, cha cha slide, and dance contests by the pool for the little ones to get into. If they win, then that's just icing on the cake. If you're there, you're watching the shows, you're part of the fun, and you're spending time with the family at Disney. A fun time is guaranteed by all.

Watch the fireworks.

All the Disney parks have some sort of light show. Magic Kingdom over does themselves every day and the fireworks can be seen through out the entire "world". One of the best places to see this show is in Fort Wilderness, right next to Wilderness lodge. The Fireworks show is a highlight for anyone, and Disney is paying good money to do just that. Sit back, smile, and enjoy the show that is being put on just for you.

All in all, the opportunities are endless as to what you can do in Disney. You don't have to pay the astronomical fees to enjoy yourself, just jump on to Buena Vista Blvd, and look for the resorts to go to. Your adventure awaits.
