Free Things to Do and Places to See in Cleveland, Ohio

Tiffany Bell
With most people trying to save money, it's always nice when you can find free things to do around your city that are fun and entertaining. If you live in Cleveland, Ohio or are planning to visit there anytime soon, here is a list of several free things to do and places to see when in Cleveland.

Mentor Headlands Park

Even though most people don't think of the beach when they think of Cleveland, the Mentor Headlands Park is a beautiful spot to relax on the beach of Lake Erie. Mentor is just about 30 minutes east of Cleveland and is easy to get to. Spend the day at the park relaxing on the beach, playing Frisbee on the sand or just soaking up the sun's rays.

Cleveland Museum Of Art

The Cleveland Museum of Art has free admission to it's permanent art collections. The admission does not cover the special exhibits, but there is plenty of things to look at in the permanent exhibit. You can see all types of art pieces from all different time periods. The museum has paintings from the Medieval times and up to modern day art. The Cleveland Museum of Art is located right in University Circle in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Metroparks

The Cleveland Metroparks is a huge system of parks that stretches all around the Cleveland area. The Metroparks is one of the oldest park systems in the United States. There are hiking trails, bike trails, walking trails, picnic areas, nature observatories, waterfalls, a marina, golf courses, riding stables, lakes, and swimming pools. There are a total of 16 area reservations that make up the Cleveland Metroparks. The park system is a great place to enjoy a picnic, a bike ride, or just a walk through nature. It's fun for the whole family to spend some time outside together.

NASA Glenn Research Center Visitors Center

Believe it or not the NASA Visitors Center has free admission to all US citizens. If you are over the age of 16 you must show an ID to get into the center due to security reasons. The NASA Glenn Research Center is located right by Cleveland Hopkins Airport off of Brookpark Road. This is only approximately 10 minutes from downtown Cleveland. The center offers interactive exhibits and memorabilia and history information on NASA. This is a great place to take the kids and let them have fun while learning about NASA and space.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo is free to all Cuyahoga County residents every Monday during the year. All you have to do is show your driver's license, state ID or a utility bill in your name that has your current address on it. The free admission is only for the actual zoo and does not include admission into the Rainforest. Parking is also free at the zoo.

My daughter lives in Erie, PA, but goes to Cleveland quite often. They can use their Erie Zoo membership in Cleveland, and I have pics of my grands at the NASA Center. I'll send her this in case she doesn't know about the other things. Thanks.
