Free Things to Do in New York, New York

New York, New York is a popular travel destination for many, and with so much to see and do a person could easily spend hundreds of dollars visiting attractions in one day. The cost of visiting New York also scares many would be travelers to the city away from it. What many do not realize is that there are plenty of places to see and visit in New York for free.

Sony Wonder Technology Lab
Sony wonder Technology Lab is a technology and entertainment museum that appeals to visitors of all ages, and is located in the Sony Plaza Public Arcade on the corner of Madison Avenue and 56th Street. The interactive museum includes exhibits such as The History of Interactive Games, Gamebuilder, The Wonder of Music and Moviemaker.

Sony Wonder Technology Lab is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM until 5 PM. The museum is closed on Sundays, Mondays, and all major holidays. You can enter the museum anytime throughout the day up until the last thirty minutes before they close. The Sony Plaza Public Arcade does not offer public parking but there are several public parking garages nearby, as well as many restaurants within walking distance.

Staten Island Ferry
The Staten Island Ferry is a well known New York landmark, and has been featured in many movies and television shows. The ferry's main purpose is to connect Staten Island with Manhattan, and carries about 60,000 passengers a day back and forth between St. George on Staten Island and Whitehall Street
in lower Manhattan. The ride is a twenty-five minute five mile ride that provides ferry goers with views of The Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the skyscrapers and bridges of Lower Manhattan.

Federal Hall National Memorial
Federal Hall played an important part of our nation's history as it served as our nation's first capital building, it was here that George Washington took his oath of office as our first President, and it was here that our nation's first Congress, Supreme Court, and the Executive Offices were housed. The building now serves as a memorial to George Washington and the beginnings of our country.

Federal Hall is open Monday through Friday from 9 AM until 5 PM, and admission is free. Federal Hall is located on Wall Street. To learn more about visiting Federal Hall you can visit their website.

General Grant National Memorial
The General Grant National Memorial is known by many as Grant's Tomb. The Memorial serves as the great General's final resting place and a memorial to his life.

The memorial is open from 9 AM until 5 PM daily and is closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and New Years Day. To learn more about visiting the General Grant National Memorial you can visit the park's website.
