Too many on-line advertisements promise you can make money, up to $20 an hour, blogging part time; at least you can make $20 per post. The hype is enough to make you want to start three or four blogs get started making money right away. Before you do, get the facts straight, without a sales pitch, about how to make money blogging.

It isn't as easy to make money blogging as many advertisers make it sound, but it can be done. There are a few rules and realities of blogging that you must know and acknowledge in order to make money blogging. Otherwise, you will waste hours and hours and end up with no money at all.

Make Money Blogging: Don't Buy A Program to Teach You

First, don't pay anyone to teach you how to make money blogging. There are no big secrets. At best, someone is trying to sell you an e-book they have written. It may how to tell you how to make money blogging, but their main objective is to make money selling e-books. At worst, they may try to get you to pay a hundred dollars or more to get involved in a pyramid scheme teaching others to make money while blogging. There is actually no blogging involved and you stand to lose more money than you make.

Make Money Blogging: Find a Niche Market

Before you begin blogging for money you must to decide on a market niche in which you are interested and in which you have valuable and purposeful information to share with readers. Genuine knowledge is crucial in developing a readership that will help you make money.

The best way to develop a following is to find a very specific niche and share information that is helpful. If you want to make money blogging, the objective is not to sell your information, but to draw readers to your site. Monetizing, or making money from your blog, comes a little later.

Making Money Blogging: Keep your Blog Interesting

Keep readers returning to your blog by writing informative articles every day. The articles don't need to be long, 300 to 400 words is sufficient. Unless you are an eloquent or riveting writer keeping reader's engaged for lengthy articles is difficult.

The importance of keeping your blog updated and filled with news and information cannot be overemphasized. If you expect to make money blogging you have to give your reader's a reason to return to your blog for more.

Attractive formatting and good grammar is another key to retaining blog readers.

Make Money Blogging: Attracting Traffic

When it comes to making money blogging getting started is the easiest part. Attracting traffic to your blog is more difficult. This is what paid information that promises to teach you how to make money blogging fails to tell you. They will help you get started blogging, and then offer you a chance to buy email addresses, or "blast" your blog URL all over the Internet. Don't fall for their gimmicks or buy into expensive programs. Continue to work hard and you will build your own blog traffic over time.

Begin gaining traffic to your blog by exchanging links with other bloggers in the same or similar niche. Try to find established blogs with established readers. Most bloggers are willing to exchange links. Link exchanges are mutually beneficial to bloggers seeking to make money.

Incoming links from valid, reputable sites increase your page rank with Google and other search engines. The caution in link exchange is that incoming links from lists only websites are are identified by such by web crawlers. Link only pages do not carry as much weight in ranking your blog as links from content heavy sites.

It's okay to submit to blog directories, but the benefits may be minimal. Most blog directories are used by blog writers and the pay-off in readers may be minimal. Blog directories are also identified by search engine crawlers and don't help rank your blog much higher. The biggest payoff in web ranking comes from incoming links that are well established and valid.

Make Money Blogging: Be Patient

To this point you will be working on developing a reputable blog and making it discoverable on the Internet. The bottom line is you want to make money blogging. Read through the money making options below carefully so that you don't get discouraged. Building a solid money making blog takes time.

It takes time to find dedicated readers. You will have to work hard to find networks of readers and writers who share your interest s. Plug into these networks and get involved. Network participants frown on users who use their services only to mark their own blogs. This will prevent you from plugging into too many social networks at once. It is a good idea to start with one blog and one social network. Creating a social network is vital to the success of your money making blog.

Make Money Blogging: Find Acceptable Affiliate Programs

As you work on blogging for money you can begin to add pay-per-click links. These are known as affiliate programs. Some programs offer incentives for a click through. Other programs pay if the click through results in a purchase. Most bogs offer a component which makes adding Google ads to your money making blog easy. If you really want to make money blogging, you cannot stop with Google ads. There are a lot of other affiliate programs which can earn you more money, depending on your niche, than Google ads.

Sign up for as many affiliate programs as you can. Some will accept your blog right away. Others will require your blog be successfully functioning for a period of time before they accept it in their affiliate program. Others may reject your blog due to inconsistent content or inactivity. This is another reason to write a focused blog entry every day.

Common affiliate programs with which to make money blogging include well known programs like Click Bank and Google. Click Bank offers a variety of e-books for sale. Google ads focus their ads to your blog content. Additional affiliate programs which will help you make money from your blog include Max Bounty, Rocket Profits, and Commission Junction. A legitimate affiliate program does not cost anything to join, so search the Internet for affiliate programs that will help you make money blogging.

If you are on a website and like the products and services they offer look at the bottom of the page for an affiliate link. Some companies offer and monitor their own affiliate programs. Other companies refer you to an affiliate manager like Commission Junction.

Spend time looking for affiliate programs that suit your web content. It will be worth your time to help you make money blogging.

Make Money Blogging: Apply to Sites that Pay for Blogs

Many sites that offer money for you to blog will only pay if you have had an active blog with consistent posts for approximately 90 days. Having carefully chosen a niche market that is not flooded with bloggers, and writing quality content, you have a good chance of being accepted by sites that pay you to blog. This is an ideal way to make money blogging.

If you are a writer for a public journalism outlet, be aware that most DO NOT allow you to write articles that promote your affiliate products. This is considered a conflict of interest and you may lose a good writing gig.

Make Money Blogging: You Can Do It

Learning to make money blogging is a different ballgame than writing for public media. Learn the ropes, have patience, and work at it every day. Don't give up. That is among the number one reasons bloggers fail to make money from their blog. Another reason people fail to make money blogging is that they try to writ about everything. Find a niche and stick with it if you want to make money other reason is that they try to blog about everything. Find your niche and stick with it if you really want to make money blogging.

You can make money blogging if you have something worth saying, start saying it, and get your blog information out there.
