Free Little Betty Sunsuit Pattern with Tips for Getting Started, Sewing, and Accessing the Pattern

Karen Barnes
When my daughter was a toddler, I use to make or buy similar sunsuits for her to wear from late spring to early fall. When I would take her out for the day, I would put a T-shirt style top under it so she would not get sunburned.

Tips for getting started on the toddler sunsuit pattern.

Print out each page of the pattern and have them enlarged if your printer is not capable of doing this. You can take them to a printer store like Kinko's to have this step done.

If you have a printer that allows you to enlarge, you can enlarge and print to the size needed. Cut the pieces out and tape them together. I would suggest doing this with one sheet at a time. This will allow you to keep the pattern pieces together and not tape the wrong pieces.

Write down the materials list from the website below. Once you have your shopping list, you can buy all the items needed in one trip.

Once you have the pattern enlarged enough and the materials needed, you can pin the pattern to the fabric as instructed on the pieces and website. Leave the pattern pieces pinned to the cut out fabric pieces until they are needed in the steps for sewing. This will help keep the pieces in order for when they are needed.

Tips for sewing the toddler sunsuit.

Be sure to have a bobbin threaded for each of the colors of fabrics you are using. This will help when moving on to each section of the sunsuit. In the pictures, they show the woman stitching on the right side of the fabric once she had sewn the pieces together. This is why having the bobbins set up ahead of time will help you make this toddler garment faster.

Have all your items within arms reach while sewing. By doing this, you are not spending time looking for pins, threads, measuring tapes, and other items needed during the sewing process.

Other uses for the toddler sunsuit and pattern.

For those who may not have toddlers of your own, you can make the sunsuit for toddlers of friends, family members, shelters, childrens hospitals or birthday gifts.

The toddler sunsuit pattern could be made for baby dolls to match the toddler's who are wearing this piece of clothing. If you know of a child who likes to play with larger dolls, the sunsuit can be made in several colors to add to the doll's wardrobe.

Little Betty Ruffle Sunsuit Free Pattern and Tutorial

You will need the instructions and materials list from the main link above. The woman who provided the instructions has pictures on the site for each step of making the sunsuit.

She used a specific designer's fabric to make her Little Betty Ruffle Sunsuit. Since she lives in the United Kingdom, these fabrics may be hard to find in the United States or other parts of the world. However, you will not need to use the same fabrics by the designer she mentioned. You can use fabrics from your local stores or from websites on the internet.

The pattern pieces for the Little Betty sunsuit is listed on separate links. You will need to click each link to access and print the pattern pieces. There is not a pattern for the bonnet listed on the website.

I would suggest right clicking on the links to open in a new tab or window. When I tried using the back button after clicking the first link, I was not able to return to the original page for the instructions. Since this happened, I had to open the link provided in a new window to obtain the pattern.
