Valentine's Day is More Than Just Candy

With your home printer and crayons or markers, you and your preschooler can make many crafts to decorate your home and help your child with fine motor skills and creativity. Your preschooler will love making gifts for grandparents, siblings, parents and friends.

DLTK Kids Printable Valentine's Day Crafts

DLTK has some great printables for preschoolers. You can print a template with your child's favorite animal made of, what else, hearts! How fun for your child to practice cutting and coloring. If your child wants to cut them out by himself this is great practice. Do one yourself so your child can see how it goes together. If he doesn't do it perfectly that's OK, it's more important to be creative. These are quick and easy to do when the creativity bug strikes your child.

Enchanted Learning Printable Valentine's Day Crafts

Enchanted Learning also has a variety of printables for your preschooler to make Valentine's Day crafts. This site has many cards you can choose from and print at home. Your child can then color and give to their favorite Valentine.

DLTK Printable Finger Paint Heart Decoration

For even the youngest of kids, here is a really cute decoration your child can make from DLTK. You don't even need to make it puffy, you can just have the child fingerpaint one side and hang on the wall or do a two day project and paint both sides one each day. You can cut or your child can cut out the heart. This is a good project to teach colors and mixing colors to make pink from red or even purple and red.

Salt Dough Keepsakes

If your child wants to make a keepsake, you can make homemade salt dough. A variety of different recipes can be found here. Use cookie cutters or allow your child to make their own shapes with play dough tools or their hands. Bake or let harden by air drying per instructions for the dough you make. Then let your kids paint and decorate their keepsake. You can use acrylic paints or fingerpaints with a brush for easier clean up.

Valentine's Day can be a fun, cute holiday for kids. They will enjoy showing their love with crafts and will also enjoy the process of creating their special gifts and cards. Be sure to display their creations proudly in your home for all visitors to see.
