Free Will?

Alice Santos
Most of us would like to believe that we have free will because everyone, I would like to think, likes control over their lives. We see ourselves as independent individuals that have a mind of our own. The belief is that everything that we do is up to us and the events of our lives was caused by our own choice of actions. But what if it isn't like that? What if everything we do, think, events in our lives and even our emotions are set. That we are pre-programmed by God and that our lives that is now and will be is how it should be and there was no way to change it.

Have you ever wondered how could both God AND free will exist? I've always known from religious relatives that God gave us free will but since God is Omniscience doesn't that mean that God knows everything. If God knows everything then how could we possibly have free will?

I'll give you something to think about. If God knows the future then that would mean everything is already set. You wouldn't suprise God if you wanted to sleep instead of going to school today because God would already know. So is there still free will?

Another example. If you went back in time and wanted to kill your great great grandfather or something then you wouldn't be able to do it. Because if you did mangage to kill your grandfather then how did you go back in time if you weren't suppose to exist? Just like when a computer is given wrong data everything would crash, the universe would turn up-side down. It simply isn't possible to kill your great great grandfather, your very existance depends on it. So that would mean everything is set because no matter how hard you try to kill your great great grandfather something would always try to stop you from letting that happen because if it did happen you wouldn't be there in the first place.

It makes you really think doesn't it? It's also a bit depressing because you think about those people who live miserable lives on the street or forced to sell drugs or worse, themselves. How could their life be set to such misery? I haven't really figured out any counter-argument that might support free-will yet. Well there is no real way to answer the question of free will because the only one who knows is God.
