FAIRBORN, OH - June 29, 2010 - Running is a sport of passion and has increased in popularity over the years. According to a study by USA Track and Field's Road Running Information Center, there are nearly 40 million runners in the United States. Many of those people experience a variety of injuries caused from acute trauma and overuse.

In order to help runners understand how chiropractic care might fit into their lifestyle, Dr. Greg Palkowski is hosting a special interactive lecture titled, "Running For Your Life." The free program is open to the public and begins at 6 p.m. on Tuesday June 29 at the Greene County Golf Club, 920 West Dayton-Yellow Springs Rd. in Fairborn.

"As a chiropractic physician, I realized that many of those who choose running as a hobby or as a sport need guidance about how to care for their physical machine before, during and after a run," Palkowski said. "The workshop is not just about the spine but also proper foot care and support as well as how to treat other injuries common to runners."

Adding the runner's perspective to the discussion will be Beavercreek resident and avid runner Doug Tryloff. This 90-minute lecture will address common misconceptions about running, related injuries and how chiropractic care applies to their treatment.

In addition, Dr. Palkowski will offer to participants a free biomechanical analysis of the feet using a digital scanner to analyze the imprint of a runner's feet under weight-bearing conditions. This process helps to determine the condition of the bottom of the foot and whether chiropractic orthotic appliances might be beneficial.

While not a runner himself, Palkowski is well aware of the physical issues runners face. A 1981 Magna Cum Laude graduate of the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, he has been in private practice since 1983.

Palkowski is currently the director of Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic, located at 1654 Mardon Dr., just west of N. Fairfield Rd. off of Dayton-Xenia. The clinic offers complete chiropractic care as well as a variety of wellness programs including nutrition and weight loss.

"I see many instances where patients need help in understand proper body mechanics in order to get the most out of their run," Palkowski noted. "This lecture will greatly benefit anyone interested in running, from the weekend warrior to serious marathoners and everyone in between."

"Running For Your Life" is sponsored by Beavercreek Chiropractic Clinic. Seating is limited and pre-registration is suggested. For more information or to register for the class, call (937) 426-9265 or email drgreg@beavercreekchiro.com.
