What is freebirth? Freebirth is when you are about to have your baby, but do not have the assistance of a doctor or nurse. This is a 'non-medical' birth. There is no medication, no help with a vacuum or forceps. If you are giving birth to your child, you are doing it naturally. Freebirthing happens in the household of the woman who is about to give labor. This could be a private setting, or they could have all the family present. This is an underground movement.
This underground movement is still going on. People that planned this free birth is secretly not telling anyone. If they do tell someone they may be in a risk to face criminal chargers. The reason they might face criminal chargers are because the baby or mother might die while giving birth. If the family or friends are present during the birth they would also face criminal chargers.
Why are parent choosing this technique? Some parents believe that by using freebirth it gives them a peaceful setting. They do not have to deal with hospital stressful setting, where the nurse and doctors interfere. Expectant mothers do not want medication to interfere with labor. Parents who choose freebirth feel capable of doing it all alone. They feel they do not need any help with labor. They also believe that their body's know what to do during labor. One couple I heard was doing this because the expense of the hospital was too much and cannot afford it. Some couples just do not have the insurance, so they are going the easy route.
I personally would not do this. This is a scary thing. I know back in the days women would give birth at their home. Some women would give birth naturally without any consequences, but also others would face consequences. Some women would die at their home when giving birth. I would hear that some women would die because they would loose a lot of blood. This Freebirth underground movement is a very scary thing going on. I believe that anyone who performs this act should be prosecuted.
