Freecycle: Better Ways to Save on Everyday Items

Elisa Nova
It had the appearance of a shady deal, all around. At 2:52:10 PM, on Monday, I viewed a list and sent out an email. The answer came a few minutes later:

" hi u maycome by tomorrow to pick it up. Which location will u be getting it at. Thanks ______"

The reply was swift, so I chose to overlook the grammar and type a reply. Another email followed:

"ok can you meet me in the blockbuster parking lot in _________ at 11:30am tomorrow. If so please let me know. Thanks _______"

This was getting hotter, and identifying details were doled out:

"Ok I am driving a plum colored __________ beat up. I have brown hair with ________ highlights and its up in a pony tails always".

"Great, I'm driving a black battered up _________ and have _______ hair".

The deal appeared to be happening, and I was getting antsy. The following morning, after dropping off my daughter at her playgroup, I headed to Blockbuster. I got there earlym wandered around another store, went back to the car and sat there. Ten minutes passed and it was now the official meet up time. I stared at incoming traffic, hoping to catch a glimpse of ______ in her _______ beat up car. At 11:33 am I called my husband and asked him to check my email in case _______ had sent an update. Would this all fall apart? There was no new email, and all I could do was wait.

At 11:38 a cheery ________ swung by, rolled down her window and apologized for being late due to traffic. She handed me a hefty paper bag which I placed in the passenger seat without a second glance. I thanked her and exchanged brief plesantries, and off she went. I drove home, happy and relieved at my successful deal.

Once home, I lugged the bag into the house and spilled out its contents: A dozen VHS kids videos for my little daughter!

Folks, that's Freecycle for ya. Millions of people nationwide are furtively meeting in Blockbuster parking lots all over, handing over free goods they no longer need thanks to Freecycle.org. There is no better time to join your local freecycle and pass on the things you don't use anymore instead of dropping them in the trash bin. I turned to freecycle when I wanted to get rid of my Boppy or some books, and Freecycle came to the rescue when I needed a wooden valet for my husband in like-new condition or some new board books for the baby.

It's cool, it's green, it's Freecycle. Do you Freecycle?
