Freecycle is made up of more than 4000 Freecycle groups, which you can join to get rid of excess items which clutter up your house. Freecycle is also a way to get things which you need from others who want to get rid of their excess clutter. Of course, what is clutter to the person who doesn't use something and wants to be rid of it, can be very useful to the person who needs it.
I discovered Freecycle after my mom passed away. Freecycle was a blessing because my mom had a clutter problem and left a house filled with more than 40 years worth of clutter. Many of these were things that I didn't want and couldn't sell but didn't want to throw away. They were small things that tend to clutter up a house but that I needed to get rid of. Freecycle was the perfect answer for getting rid of all of that clutter.
Freecycle - How It Works
Start out by going to Freecycle.org and enter your city and state to find a Freecycle group near you. Sign onto your local Freecycle group and post all the items that clutter up your house that you would like to get rid of. You can also respond to Freecycle posts from other people who have excess clutter that they want to get rid of.
Once you post some of the items that you want to get rid of on Freecycle, people will respond to your message. You can then choose who will get the items you want to get rid of. People usually give it to either the person who responds first or the one who seems to need it most.
The things I have been able to get rid of through Freecycle may have been clutter to me and might have been considered clutter to some others, but were very important to those who received them. I was able to rid myself of an old mattress and give it to someone who was sleeping on the floor. I gave away some household items to people who had lost everything in a house fire. I was happy to get rid of the items which were just clutter in my house because I wasn't using them, but the people who were able to get my excess clutter were very much in need.
Freecycle - Safety
It's very important to be safe when using Freecycle to get rid of your excess clutter. Never post your phone number or address on a public Freecycle list. When you choose the person you will give your items to, give them only your address so they can come to get the items you want to get rid of. Don't let anyone enter your house. You can put the items that you want to get rid of outside of your house for the person coming to get them. Ask the person you are picking a Freecycle item up from to leave it outside of their house.
Overall, I feel that Freecycle is a wonderful organization that we can all use to get rid of our clutter which can bog down our life and our house. What other organization enables us to get rid of all of our clutter while helping others who need it? Freecycle is a much more fulfilling way to get rid of clutter than by throwing it into the trash.

Post a CommentGood details about freecycle.
Great article - I'm definitely signing up on freecycle :)
Good to know. Thanks!
You've taught me something new with the article. Thanks.
Sharon, thanks for the article. I was sure there were no freecycle groups near me, but was amazed to find I was wrong. I sounds like a really great idea. I'm signing up today. Hopefully, I'll be able to give away things left from my yard sale that didn't sell. I'll share your article with my sister who lives near Kansas City. Surely, there are lots of freecycle groups there! (^;^) Thanks, again!
When we bought this house, the owner had "saved" everything, meaning we had huge dump costs to get rid of it all, not clearing away unneeded articles doesn't save an owner anything. Good article :) Sheri
My sister does freecycle all of the time. it's pretty cool :)
Oh good idea! I need to find one in the Tri-State area.
I use freecycle all the time - both to give and get :D
