Freedom is Just One Step Away

This poem is dedicated to every women who have found themselves in an abusive relationship and found the courage to leave.

You say that you love me, but I know it is not true
Just look at my face how you turned it black and blue

I say I'm not going through this anymore
but then you come back again and sweet
talk me into being your friend

You say it will never happen again you are so sorry
and you did not mean it so I walk around on egg
shells fearing the next hit not knowing when you will
burst out into an outrageous fit

My children watch and cry because they think their
mother is going to die not realizing that what they
see will torture their minds will they ever be free?

Today is the day that I make my escape a new life
is before me I finally realize that I held the key and
you have losted your control over me
