Freedom of Speech? What's That?

My Thoughts on America's Freedom of Speech, or Lack Thereof

B. Fristick
I am a bit confused about our right to freedom of speech. We no longer have it! My daughter came home from school last week and told me that a boy in her class received detention for the statement "I believe in God"! Don't get me wrong, Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs but why is it now wrong to say what those beliefs are out loud? Also, why does everyone want to take God out of everything like the Pledge of Allegiance? Wouldn't it be easier if those who do not belief in God to simply not say the pledge?

I personally believe in God and I also believe in everyone's right to have their own beliefs. We should be allowed to say what we want to about what we belief. We should be allowed to pray at school if we choose and children should not get expelled for making snow angles on school property because it's religious in nature! (Yes, that actually happened to a high school student in my local school district.)

Its not just religious things that we are not allowed to speak out loud anymore. I heard this past year that Santa can no longer say "HO HO" due to its offensive nature?! Or should we say that it is due to Americans being so "law suit happy" these days. Everyone now must watch what they say because if it offends the person next to you then you will get sued. It's a shame that we are getting to be so lazy that we would rather sue someone than go out and get a job.

I just think it's a shame that we are loosing our right to speak our minds because of those people out there that are easily upset and offended by words. I hope our government will pass a law stopping these stupid law suits! Also, these stupid rules that your child can get in trouble for saying God!

This is just my opinion. I personally think that we should be able to speak our minds without fear of punishment.

American Liberalism is, behind its facade of being in favor of freedom, actually at its core a bunch of people who have had a love affair with Communism since 1917 and wish to turn our country into another Soviet Union. Check it out!

Freedom of speech in many of the ways you describe is definitely under fire. The whole Don Imus thing and so many othe hypocrisy's within the definition of freedom of speech make it an arguable problem with no real solution. Freedom of choice to me is the right most under fire in the U.S. to me. Conformity rather than choice in reality prevails.
