Freelance Jobs on Associated Content and Demand Studios Getting More Competitive

Andre Asbury
More and more people are getting involved in freelance writing. A few years ago it was fairly easy to get freelance writing work. I started writing articles on here about a year and a half ago but I have contributed in relatively low quantities compared to many people. At first the pay was just too low to be worth my effort but now that articles I wrote over a year ago are bringing in page views, even more now than when first published, it's getting to be a decent source of secondary income.

Writing for Associated Content or any of the other freelance writing sites like Seed or Demand Studios is not a way to get rich quickly. Those opportunities are mostly a myth, but in time it can become enough to be significant but probably never will be enough to live on. I don't know how much editors make but I'd imagine they might be able to make a living doing that full-time.

Anyway, shortly after I started on Associated Content, I wrote a few articles for eHow. I wrote three to be exact and within a couple of months that had netted me something like $0.45 so I quit paying attention to that. A few weeks ago, I got an email saying Demand Studios had deposited $20 to my paypal account. After clicking a few links and trying to remember passwords, I found that that was money for those eHow articles. Unfortunately, Demand Studios has taken over eHow.com and has more rigorous screening for writers. Most other sites have added more screening for their writers. Associated Content, however, still lets anyone write. They depend on searches and low page views to naturally week out the bad writers.

So, Associated Content is a good place to start your freelance writing career - other sites may pay more upfront but are harder to get into and generally want articles on more specific topics while associated content lets you write about anything you want. You do need to make sure that what you're writing about is something people will want to search for or else you will see extremely low page views and be very disappointed.
