Freelance Writing from Home and Being Able to Afford the Finer Things in Life

Rosa Hayes
I started out writing for Associated Content in February of 2007 after looking for a job that would allow me to work part-time from home. I can't remember where I had actually stumbled upon Associated Content and it really doesn't matter because I am here now and have been for a while.

When I first started my freelance career I was skeptic since I have dyslexia but I have always wanted to be a writer. I dropped out of school in the 9th grade and later went back to get my GED. I didn't like school but it still didn't stop my passion for writing. I now understand the importance of an education and what it takes to be a true writer.

The school year had just begun and I watched as my oldest daughter struggled through school the way that I did. My children have had a difficult time and I honestly didn't know what to do since she had moved from another school to Prairie Queen Elementary and I learned that this school was way more advanced than her other school. I want my children to succeed to the best of their abilities but money was tight and we didn't have the funds to pay for a tutor considering that it would cost $150 for the tuition and $43 an hour after that.

Seeing my daughter struggle through everything had made me realize that Associated Content wasn't just another part-time job, it was my job and in order to get things or do things I needed to write more. I kicked it up a notch and started writing more but it was something that I enjoyed doing so it wasn't that difficult especially with the calls for content and performance bonus. I made enough with my performance bonus last month to pay the tuition to further her education and I am able to pay for the hourly fee through the help of the calls for content.

My freelance writing career has really bloomed this past year and has even helped me to enroll my children in after school activities such as basketball, skating classes, singing lessons, and the tutoring sessions to help my oldest. In Oklahoma City there are only certain schools that actually fund sports and most of the schools the parents have to pay for them to go.

I asked my oldest daughter what she wanted to be and she told me that she wanted to be a writer like her mom since mom is able to make money and still spend time with her.

Since I started writing for Associated Content I have went on to write speeches for the Victims Homicide Group and to even write stories for my middle daughter's kindergarten class.

Associated Content was a lesson in disguise. I have learned so much from Associated Content and have even won an award and been able to afford nicer things such as a big screen television that I have always wanted.

Not long after I started writing for Associated Content my youngest son at the time died and I felt my world collide. I don't have many friends since I spend most of my time at home with the kids but the friends that I have made since I have been here are irreplaceable. The compassion that the people had for me and my family are worth a million and they really helped me through the difficult times. I was sent tons of emails from people that I didn't know on Associated Content telling me that I should continue to write after I had made a choice to give it all since I felt that nothing was going to get better. I took their advice and started writing again. Nothing would replace my son but I am now doing something that we had often enjoyed doing together. My son would often give me inspiration for an article or sit on the couch and ask me to read one to him. I found my strength once again through the help of the people on Associated Content.

I have huge dreams and goals and Associated Content is only the tip of what you will see come from me. I am a freelance writer and I will continue to write for Associated Content since they gave me the courage to actually say that I am a writer.

I do believe that Associated Content can open doors for you since they have opened a lot for me. Writing the speech for the Victims Homicide Group was one of the best things that I have done in my writing career and I felt honored to have written it. I can honestly say that if it weren't for Associated Content, I may have never been able to start my writing career or be able to afford to work from home.

Your writing, Rosa, is a continuing and lasting tribute to your son and a testament to your will, perseverance and talent. You are a force of change and with every word you write you effect change in the lives of those that experience each word.

Inspiring! I didn't "know" you when you lost your son, but the article you wrote afterward brought me to tears. It is so nice to be able to afford a few extras, isn't it? Necessity is the mother of invention, that is for sure. You saw a need and found a way to fill it.
