There are plenty of opportunities for those who are interested in freelance writing. All it takes to get started is passion, determination and the right resources to kick start your career. Below are some useful tips to assist those who are interested in freelance writing.

Find a Website to Submit Content

The first step in becoming a professional freelance writer is to find a website where you can submit content and begin building a portfolio and a reputation for yourself.

There are several sites to choose from that offer writers a chance to get their feet wet and get published. Some of these sites include, www.associated content.com, www.suite101.com, and www.demandstudios.com.

Establishing a reputation can be a fun and exciting process for novice freelance writers. It takes time to build a profile for yourself, but the sooner you get writing and the more you write; the quicker you will reap the rewards of online freelancing.

Social Networking

Taking advantage of social networks such as www.myspace.com, www.facebook.com or www.twitter.com is a great way to advertise your articles. Most freelance writing sites offer writers the opportunity to have links to their articles on social networking sites.

This increases the chance of readers clicking on your articles, in turn creating more revenue (money) for you. This also creates easy access for your content, to share with friends and family.

Write What You Know

Writing about what you already know is a great rule of thumb in the writing world. Most writers choose to write because they love to, because they are passionate about a certain subject or many subjects, and cannot wait to share their passions with the world.

It doesn't matter what you write about, subjects can range from cooking, gardening, computers, finance, parenting etc.... You name it, people are searching for it online.

Take what you know and roll with it, you may be surprised to find out how often someone searches for a subject that happens to be in your area of expertise.

Also, when you are passionate about a subject, it shows in your writing. So, resist writing about topics that you don't care about, and stick to what you do know.

Keywords

Google has many opportunities for writers to check keywords or subjects to find out what other people are searching for such as www.googleadwords.com. This gives the writer an advantage, it also helps to find out what the CPC (cash per click) is for the subject you are writing about.

Some subjects offer more revenue such as finance. Regardless of how much revenue the subject pays, the most important factor is that it comes easily for the writer. If you are struggling to write an article about a subject you know nothing about, it will take twice the time to complete and it will more than likely lack the passion that you feel for subjects you enjoy.

Bottom Line

Whatever it may be that interests you, someone is searching for it online. Statistics have proven that 90% of people look online for information. This gives writers a great advantage, your article may just be the one people are searching for.
