Freeware Game: Little Fighter 2

C.B. Jones
Little Fighter 2 is to Final Fight, as Mugen is to Street Fighter II. There's really no better way to explain it. LF2 is a customizable two dimensional, side-scrolling beat 'em up, compatible with computers that run Windows(including Mojav...err, I mean Vista.)

By default, Little Fighter 2 isn't really a do it yourself game engine like Mugen. You can't just mess around with the game and alter content right off the bat. You'll need download the data changer to tweet attack attributes and such.

Characters, backgrounds and weapons can be installed automatically(which is something that can't be done in Mugen). At it's core, Little Fighter 2 is a complete game. You can either play alone, locally with up to eight other players, or online!

Little Fighter 2's Game play is fast and furious. A novice should take a thorough look at a few play guides before jumping into Little Fighter 2. The speed and difficulty level a bit of a pain to get used to you are used to games like Final Fight and Double Dragon. Little Fighter 2 is like River City Ransom, but with a bottle rocket shoved up it's rear end.

Buying a controller wouldn't be a bad idea either. I dare anyone to attempt to play Little Fighter 2 all the way though on Normal. This game not meant to be played with a keyboard. If you are able to master it with a keyboard, you won't have as much fun with it as you would with a game pad.

One of the best things about Little Fighter 2 are spacial attacks and weapons. Some weapons can only be created by certain characters. For example: The Ice Sword will only appear if created by Freeze. You can pummel him, take his sword, and use it against anyone else on screen!

Most old school beat 'em ups tend to lack anything that even resembles depth. Little Fighter 2 features combo attacks, counter attacks, transformations, and other nifty things that add a great deal of replay value.Again, Little Fighter 2' play mechanics remind me a lot of River City Ransom. That game was ahead of it's time, that's for sure.

All of this can be seen as both a blessing and a curse though. At times, things get really hectic and it's hard to keep up with your fighters position on screen.

There are waves of enemies that rush in on every stage. They sometimes bring boulders, baseball bats, and other weapons with them. Or, they drop down from the sky! It is possible to lose focus due to all the miscellaneous crap that clutters the screen. Aside from that, Little Fighter 2 is winner.
