French Baby Names for Your Bundle of Joy

Carol Bengle Gilbert
Expectant parents contemplating baby names often hope to select a name that is unique enough not be shared by five other kids with whom the baby will ultimately attend school. Other cultures are ready sources of uncommon baby names. By choosing a culture with a language whose sounds appeal to you, you may find the perfect name for your bundle of joy.

French Boy Names for Your Bundle of Joy

Berenger is a French name for baby which means courage of the bear.

Boden is French for herald.

Corbyn means raven-haired.

Dartagnan is a leader.

For parents who like the idea of naming a baby boy after its father, Fitz is a prefix from Old French which means son of and is used in front of the father's name as in Fitzpatrick (son of Patrick) or Fitzgerald (son of Gerald.)

Gable is the diminutive form of Gabriel in French and means a man of God.

Jeoffroi means divine peace.

Karlis is a French name for baby that means strong and masculine.

Pomeroy means from the apple orchard.

Quennell(e) can be used without the final e for a boy or with it for a girl. This French baby name means oak tree.

With French Canadian heritage, I simply could not compile a list of French names that did not include some of the baby names I will euphemistically describe as "unusual" that were inflicted upon my ancestors: Adlore, Alcide, Emil, Narcisse, Napoleon, Philomene, and Tancrède.

Love this. We chose the unique name of Jasper for our son and will seek unique ones, whether international or not, for any other children we may have!
