Frenchy's Rockaway Grill on Clearwater Beach, Florida

A Local Establishment for Summertime Fun

Melissa A
Summertime is here and one of the joys of the warm weather and cool breezes is eating out on a beachside deck. There are many beachside restaurants offering outdoor seating in Florida, but on Clearwater Beach, Florida, one of the premier hot spots for enjoying the beach, the weather, and the nightlife is Frenchy's Rockaway Grill. The Rockaway has been a huge draw to Clearwater Beach since its opening in 1991. It was the third, and largest in a line of restaurants started by Mike "Frenchy" Preston, who is originally from Canada.

The Frenchy's empire boasts a total of four restaurants along the stretch of Clearwater Beach and even has its own seafood company complete with a fleet of commercial fishing boats, ensuring Frenchy's serves only the freshest - never frozen - fish in town. For those who like to create their own seafood specialties at home, the seafood company is also located on Clearwater Beach, is open six days a week, and has daily specials.

Besides the Rockaway Grill, other Frenchy's restaurants include the Original Café, the Saltwater Café, and the newest addition to its series of establishments is the South Beach Café. All of the restaurants are known for their "World Famous" grouper sandwich, but guests to the Rockaway Grill should also try the delicious Rockaway She Crab Soup as a fabulous starter to a wonderful seafood meal. There are many treats on the Rockaway's menu, with a host of Jamaican and Floribbean recipes that include everything from top sirloin and fish tacos to salads and sausages and everything in between. There's something everyone will love on the menu.

The Rockaway Grill's deck faces the Gulf of Mexico, and guests can sit and dine while listening to the waves crash upon the shore and beachgoers play in the sand below. After dinner, a nice barefoot walk in the sand is in order to fully experience the warm Florida climate. It's a great place for families, casual dates, and out-of-towners to eat, relax, socialize, and get to know the Clearwater Beach area.

Frenchy's Rockaway Grill has a stimulating night life, with live music, dancing, and two full bars available for exciting summer fun. Pool tables, video games and dart boards also are available for a bit of friendly competition while guests await their meals. The staff is professional and always friendly at the Rockaway Grill, with a full wait staff and bartenders to attend guests every need.

Frenchy's hosts several events throughout the year, including its popular Stone Crab Festival in October. This event marks the beginning of the stone crab season, which runs from October 16 through May 14 every year. The event is celebrated at each of Frenchy's locations and boasts live music and extra seating. Other yearly events include tennis, golf, and bowling tournaments, a bike ride and a fun run. These events help support many community organizations and charities throughout the local area.

Visit the Rockaway Grill's website at www.Frenchysonline.com and click on the link to the Rockaway Grill. Here you will find photos, maps, a complete menu, and even the history of the Frenchy's establishment. There are even several live webcams set up so that visitors to the website can check out the deck, dining areas and bars to see what's going on.

There are plenty of hotels and shops in the area, and Pier 60, a prime attraction for those visiting Clearwater Beach, is right down the road. For those who will be visiting the Tampa Bay area, it's worth a drive out to Clearwater Beach to eat at Frenchy's Rockaway Grill. Don't forget to order the grouper sandwich! You'll be glad you did!

Can't wait to go there! Staying at the Sandpearl in April, and am looking forwared to a break from everyday life. I read your review of Caladesi Island, and you must be very adventurous to swim to the island. Sounded like fun, and maybe I can toss my fear of sharks, and try it myself.

    Melissa,
I was just there about a month ago. I'm actually from Clearwater Beach, Florida and I am sooooo homesick it's not funny. I live in Maryland now and I'm so tired of the snow and all the clothing one has to wear to live here. It's soooo depressing. Your article cheered me up and made me think of the sun and fun and the Rockaway Grill on Clearwater Beach, Florida. Going back in the summer to see my son and the sun!
    Take care and God Bless,
    Mary E Tilley
