Frenemies (A Rap)

Canopy of My Heart Series

J.E. Ward

You've heard these words as an old cliché

It's what the wise folks used to say

With friends like you, who needs enemies?

Today they call these kinds of pals frenemies.

Please know that a frenemy ain't no friend

When they smiling at you and praying for your end

When all they're doing is wanting what you got

You are the topic of discussion to create a new plot

They laughing with you while they plan your hurt

They all up in your business digging for some dirt

To spread about you and make you look bad

'Cause you got what they think they wish they had

I tell you I don't do frenemy

If you not my friend don't play with me

To some it's just a juvenile game

They show you one thing, but the real them ain't the same

They can't wait to drag your name through the mud

They buy you with gifts and try to call it love

Now that may be how y'all do it at your joint

I got a question for ya: hey, what's the point?

You just a backstabber, that's what you are

In your fake show, you the fake superstar

I tell you I don't do frenemy

If you not my friend don't play with me

Don't play with me, or you might get hurt

While you plotting and planning all yo' lil dirt

I hadn't done nothing but be your friend

Plan on staying that way until the end

Maybe you don't know but this word is true

The dirt you hurl lands right back on you

It's a fact what they say: you reap what you sow

So do yo' thang, but just so you know

I tell you I don't do frenemy

If you not my friend don't play with me

Don't play with me

Don't play with me

I don't give you that luxury
