Fresh Ideas for Job Hunters

Job Hunting? the Rules of the Game Have Changed

Bill Hanks
The jobs report last week was very bad. As a matter of fact, it has been bad for some time. Still, there is hope for those seeking a job. This article will provide some fresh ideas for finding a new job.

Stay Updated
In the electronic age, jobs are posted and snapped up quickly. It is important, that when you seek a job, you get instant notification of an opening. When you register on a job site, make sure you sign up for notification as soon as your particular position comes open. This means checking your email or use instant messaging. Do your homework. Know where and when the jobs will be offered.

What Doesn't Work
Yes you still need a good cover letter and resume. However, those days have long passed. You supply it on request. Newspaper searches don't even exist any longer. Finding an opening in a newspaper is for the lower paying jobs.

What Does Work
Networking is the new way to get hired. Everything is built on personal connections. The old saying, "It's not what you know, but who you know." is true to fact. Your best chance is through employee referrals. Connect with employees inside a corporation or company. Get them to speak up for you. Market yourself.

Guerrilla Tactics
When it comes to getting your job, you have to change your mindset and use guerrilla tactics for landing a job. To get your foot in the door, you will have to be innovative. You must prove that you have the skills for the job. You need to adapt to what employers are actually looking for. You must be able to demonstrate and produce positive results and do this immediately. You need to show that you can add value.

Face to Face
Introductions and shaking hands early on can set the stage for you. Sell yourself. Socializing is one thing. Actual connecting is another. Everyone goes virtual. Big deal. You have to go farther. You need to figure a way to break away from other applicants.

Consultant
You might have to do some volunteer work to get your foot in the door. Be open to pay, location and position.

Burn No Bridges Behind You
No matter where you work or how things turn out, always leave on an upbeat note. Stay positive. Don't run anyone or any job down. Keep future doors open at all costs.

The job market will get better. This country is just going through a rough period in its history.
