The first of my anxieties is called paraskevidekatriaphobia , a term derived form the Greek words Paraskeví , meaning Friday and dekatreís meaning thirteen. But being afraid of Friday the 13th isn't that serious i guessed, because it can only happen upto three times a year. Maybe it's just a superstition, but when a bunch of coincidences occur on that date you start to take it seriously until it becomes a certainty.
Then my second illness is something that affects the majority of people and it is named ergophobia.
This is actually the only word that includes ' phobia ' in its structure but is no real fear. Because translated out of Latin it means HATE/REPULSION OF WORKING, LABOUR.
And last but not least i'm overwhelmed by the fear of long words which paradoxically is called Hippopotomonstrosesquipedaliophobia-no joke. Now why in the name of all phobias would they pick this title ? Maybe just for laughs. But i'm sure it's a psychological trick which states that the first step to spiritual healing is reached by being able to spell your disease. So maybe we don't need doctors to cure all our problems , just find a grammar teacher.
But Friday the 13th is the date that cured most of my fears. On this date while being at work and googling for new jobs my boss suddenly disrupted my deep thoughts, asked me to come to his office and offered me a raise and promoted me to being his company's tourism manager at his branch located in beautiful and sunny Ouagadougou , Burkina Faso. My fears of Friday the 13th, long words and my hatred towards work just flew away in that instant. For some reason i could pronounce the capital of the African country after my first try...coincidence?
Well after accepting the new job, on the flight to Ouagadougou , my best friend panicked and came outta the closet as we had some problems with one of the plane's engines so i just discovered two more fears....i was homophobic and aerophobic! Unfortunately , at this point not being necrophobic i was kinda sad to see the captain successfully pull off an emergency landing in the middle of nowhere under terrible heat , in a place seemingly not reached by God or any form of technology probably due to the time difference!
Later , to my surprise i found out that this deserted place was actually called the National Airport of Burkenese Ouagadougou!
So out of my experience , i can tell you what worked for me to get rid off phobias.
You don't suffer if you're not aware of suffering let's just act like animals. Ignorance is the way to true happiness....stupidity can cure everything, in some cases it can even heal you of this nagging habbit called life.
As a conclusion if you ever come to Africa, maybe for the World Cup in 2010, feel free to drop by in Ouagadougou , i'll give you a free tour of the city!
