Friday Funny Farm Report- Volume 6

Carol Slater
It is hard to believe that this is my sixth week of writing this weekly article about life on our "funny farm", but it seems that I am always thinking through the week about what I will write for the Friday report. As I am writing this it is 1:30 a.m. and for some reason I can't sleep. I have all kinds of thoughts racing through my head and just can't seem to get my mind to realize that it is time to sleep.

First an update on my elbow/arm issue, I found with the nerve test that I do have carpel tunnel in my wrist, which explains that pain. It still does not explain all of the pain in my elbow that won't go away. I am going to have cortisone shot and I hope that helps with the pain. I am not sure of how bad the carpel tunnel is but I will know next week when I go to the orthopedic doctor again. We will work out a plan to do something with it.

Recently, I have decided that I really enjoy being home more now and I would like to make this a more permanent decision. I have thought that I make okay money here but not enough weekly to pay bills that I need to pay and the "farm" is not a money maker. However, I would like to possibly get into the tack business. I could combine my love of horses with a career decision and enjoy what work I would do. I believe that I would like to start by selling online and at local flea markets and work my way up. I am currently trying to find a good wholesale distributor for buying tack from. Any ideas or help that anyone could give me would be appreciated, so if you know anything about getting into a business like that, feel free to offer any advice that you have.

We attended a fundraiser chili supper and auction for the Morgan County, Indiana 4-H Horse and Pony Club last weekend and we bought several nice items from there. I got a really nice rug and blanket (or throw) for the home. I also got my daughter a halter for her pony and a few other small items. We also enrolled my youngest (age 13) in the group. I believe that she will learn a lot and I know that 4-H is a good program.

This Saturday, we will be going to a larger auction that I may be able to buy even more "goodies" at. There is going to be a larger auction that will sell tack and livestock. I plan to attend with some money to buy things that I see that I want. I hope to invest in some items to hopefully sell at my first business venture.

The weather is starting to warm up some and hopefully, the rain will stay away and we can begin to work with the horses everyday and begin to do some work on the barn that is past due to be fixed. It seems that there is always work to be done and never enough time to get it done. I guess that is just part of life on the farm. I know as warm weather gets here it will be more and more work and less free time, so I better take advantage of it now.

I believe that I am going to have to go shopping tomorrow for mud or muck boots for my daughter and I. She also said that she would like to have some western shirts to show in so I will have to see what I can do about starting to look for those too. Should be a lot of fun to look for.

Well, I guess that is all for this week. So until we meet again, "ya'll come back now".
