Prisoners On Hunger Strike In California
Prisoners in the California prison system are sick and tired of the living conditions within solitary confinement cell blocks units and will starve to prove it. The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the strike, "began Monday, involves as many as 6,000 prisoners who say conditions in isolation cells need to be improved. They claim unfair gang-security measures at the state prisons" (UPI, 2011).
Number one guys this does not seem the impossible or impressive feat since prison food is reputedly horrible anyway. Secondly, there are those within the free world that will be quick to say that if you do the crime you do the time, period! Third point far more simplistic contains many elements of logic and reason so here's some pointers for the weary and hungry within California's prison system.
1. Follow the rules. This way you will not find yourself in the horrid conditions of an isolation cell.
Okay, so only one point was made sue me. The fact is according to California Correctional Peace Officers Association (CCPOA), "More than 170,000 inmates are now being warehoused in facilities designed to accommodate 80,000 inmates". The association adds that approximately, "$7 billion" was allocated by then Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2007 "to address both overcrowding and expanded rehabilitation" (CCPOA, 2011).
According to monetary statistics concerning inmate housing cost this equates to approximately $133.00 per day per inmate. Like many within "free" America, I wish I made 133 dollars a day! Apparently not enough money to meet the demand of crime and punishment in America and this is an example of one state!
The problem is that this is a double edged sword. The outcry from the general public is likely to be a unified STARVE! while omitting the thought that they will likely pay for the hungry now dead inmates burial.
San Francisco Protesters: No Nudes Is Bad News
A little bird was chirping around after spotting an older gentleman wearing a yellow visor and pair of tube socks with toe sandals..."No nudes on the freakin' beach anymore!" In San Francisco the topic has at least one Wiener in an uproar with all puns accepted and intended.
Supervisor for the city, Scott Wiener, is demanding a change in San Fran's "open-air" general acceptance of public nudity by requesting that, "the clothing-averse (should) cover up in restaurants" adding that, "people [sic] put cloth or other barrier under their bottoms if they take a seat in public" (AP, 2011).
This request sounds hygienically legitimate to this writer, can anyone say gross? The idea of people walking around the city with no clothes seems out of whack in opinion. After all where would I put my cell-phone? The nudists side of the debate in this appears to be that they think nudists should be allowed to go anywhere they wish with no rules concerning designated areas as one protestor to the proposal retorted.
Many opponents to nudity in public at all, yet alone with rules, seem to point out the negative aspects of the open practice. Opponents protest that the Pro-Nudist point of view is not necessarily taking into account the young eyes alive and well and as inquisitive as most of the adults around them. Some opponents have religious issue with public nudity and still others think it is okay but only with guidelines or designated areas.
The lines that need to be drawn within society, free or not, are present despite their often times invisible characteristics. We are not cavemen anymore and living to extreme, with the excuse being used dressed as freedom, is not a logical or valid form of reasoning. There is a certain amount of responsibility as children, as adults, as people in general and as a whole that realistically should be followed. The largest responsibility any of us has is the responsibility to be respectful of those around us. What one may take as freedom is what another may take as pushing the boundaries to far from the central idea.
