Friday's Stupid Headlines there's 2

Man Alleges Ex Stole His Sperm

Ok, from a sperm bank I get it, lol. This could in a future setting be useful in the instance that the former girlfriend inseminates and becomes pregnant via stolen sperm and attempts to seek paternity. The right to privacy is a likely concern and this can be understood as well.

Apparently this is exactly what happened…with a slight twist. According to the New York Daily News an ex-fiancee, "stole his sperm by performing oral sex - and then used his seed to impregnate herself" (Siemaszko 2005).

Your stunned silence is duly noted.

On to the more important, infertility is a large problem for many couples here and abroad. The treatments range from simple medical procedures and operations to prescription drugs. In the use of prescription drugs some settings are more controlled requiring regular check-ups to update data, increase/decrease, or terminate prescription use depending on side-effects, progress, and/or positive/negative results.

The New York Times reports that, "Approximately 30 - 40% of all infertility is due to a "male" factor such as retrograde ejaculation, impotence, hormone deficiency, environmental pollutants, scarring from sexually transmitted disease, or decreased sperm count" (NYT, 2011).

The Times goes on to report that, "40 - 50% of infertility in couples" is largely due to the transport of sperm "from the cervix through the fallopian tubes" where other problem sometimes occur in failed pregnancies as well such as tubal pregnancy (NYT, 2011).

Anyway, there were no apparent problems with pregnancy in this week's headline. The method to becoming pregnant in this instance, however, is somewhat disturbing. The information seems to point toward the likelihood that Ms. Innovation will not acquire paternal support.

US Students Held Amid Egypt Protest Fly Home

In this headline the awe inspiring vision the students are being held on a rooftop while protest rage below. The crowd eventually settles down and the two Egyptian men, along with a woman on vacation from Bulgaria, release the fledgling students. Ahh, free at last as they fly toward the United States.

The students, one hailing from my home state of Indiana, took separate flights the heck out of there on Thursday. A large Thanksgiving Day dinner with friends and family seemed the primary agenda for the returning students. The protest in Cairo began in January of this year primarily as a non-violent demonstration or civil resistance which continues to date.

The citizens of the United States find themselves, as well, in a state of protest with Occupy Wall Street and similar demonstrations springing up nationwide over the past several months. Tahrir Square protesters unfurled a banner that simply read OCCUPY and so it began as others in their own plight for solidarity unfurled banners as well and occupied.

One of the closest to home banners from Occupy Wall Street:

"If Only The War On Poverty Was A Real War.

Then We Would Actually Be Putting Money Into It!" (Image Quote, S. Platt/Getty Images, 2011).
