Solange Knowles and Banana Drama

First of all, drama? Secondly, Solange Knowles? And finally, Is this really even news?? To explore this further and feeling slightly forced into doing so due to the working assignment being created we start with drama. It turns out that the drama surrounds two off-duty police officers working as security for a Miami nightclub and an altercation with Solange concerning a 5 foot inflatable banana!

There is the drama so who is Solange Knowles? Turns out she is the elder sister of music sensation Beyonce'. Apparently Solange was approached by the security officers concerning the inflatable banana and their unwillingness to allow her access into the club.

Anger, accusations, and apparently an officer's gun being drawn in the fracas indeed creates a sense of drama. Solange accuses the officer's of racial discrimination, agreeably appalled that an officer pulled his weapon on her threatening to deflate the rather large inflated banana. In the article Solange is quoted in the aftermath stating that, "I have literally had my last leg with discriminating police! Miami police department will be notified ... I am simply tired of police using arrogance, ego and authority as an offense" (Campbell, 2011).

Raising awareness about racial discrimination is the ending statement for Solange and a large task to undertake. Awareness within this social issue is always a good idea because it does in reality happen every day and needs to stop.

Nightclub? Five-foot inflatable banana? Sorry Solange, but, the relevance or necessity of such an apparent "dance" partner totally escapes me.

Shelby Cross Takes On Public Indecency By Videotaping Teens Having Sex

The Onion News Network's (ONN) Shelby Cross seems to feel teens and public indecency gives her the right to video tape minors having sex. Publicly or not are you serious? The police should have been called is the bottom line here. There are some things involving criminal activity that yes Jane and Joe Citizen can take care of on their own. This incident is not one of them. The more responsible reaction caught in this situation from this writer's point of view is a looking away bang on the car window and a index finger spin in their view saying, "Get dressed now!"

The key point in this is that most police agencies ask the citizenry to call police rather than attempt to handle a criminal act in progress on their own. A threat within the home then there is justified reason to act and even then phoning police should be on the forefront.

Another point is that child pornography and the videotaping, and, or distribution thereof is a criminal offense that can and will be prosecuted. The end does not, in Shelby Cross's actions, justify the means. To top bad judgment, Ms. Cross and the distributing network (ONN) broadcasted the video on the internet front page of the networks website.

There is a point when taking the law into your own hands becomes an action that crosses the line, pun slightly intended. Did Ms. Cross and the news network cross (again no pun intended) that line? The question almost does not seem debatable when exposed to the details within the video.

It would seem difficult, hypothetically surveying public opinion, to find agreement with how the situation is being handled. Two teenagers being human, back seat of a car in public or not, is a parental, police, or both case scenario not a fanatical news reporters duty or obligation.

The incident happened within the reporters neighborhood so agreeably Ms. Cross has a right to object to certain behaviors within that neighborhood. The logical thing to do, however, in any witnessed to be potentially criminal activity is to call the police. The videotaping involved here and by the headline involving minors appears to have a fanatical feel to it in this writer's opinion. Watch the video you will see what is meant by fanatical.

Quoted from the video Shelby Cross rants saying, "If you think this is an isolated incident you are dead to rights wrong! I have 36 hours of footage to prove it that I have personally collected from sicko's just around my own town" (ONN, 2011).

In an effort to not call names here, mainly because with raised eyebrow the question is blurted, "was that use of word really necessary?" I would not call a couple of curious teens perverted for wanting to explore sex.

This situation or scenario anywhere in the US, where an individual is discovered in the bushes videotaping teens in a car having sex for 20 minutes will likely have the ending result of arrest.
