Friends

Eva  Gallant
Time passes, waistlines thicken, shoulders stoop a bit.
The hair may gray, or even disappear;
The eyesight wavers, ears aren't as sharp as once they were.
But nothing changes in those you hold dear.

What things stay constant?
The smiles, the hugs, the memories you share,
Those survive the ravages of time.
The love and warmth, remembered, are still there.

True friendship spans a lifetime.
Years apart tear it not asunder-
Reunited, you feel like it was yesterday
You were together. Such a wonder!

Life is precious, as are friends.
I finally understand the words I was told:
New friends are of silver,
But OLD friends, indeed, are gold!

    It is amazing how fast old friends can reconnect - as if it was only yesterday when you saw them last! Nice poem, Eva. :)
