According to the Word of God David had a best friend and his name was Jonathan. Jonathan was the son of Saul, king of the Israelites. In first Samuel 18:1 it tells us there was an immediate bond of love between David and Jonathan. In verse three Jonathan made a special vow to David and made it official by giving David his robe, tunic, sword, bow, and belt. These were than likely royal items and extremely important to Jonathan. In today's time it would be comparable to a Pastor giving their first study Bible to their assistant. Jonathan and David's friendship was deep rooted in God therefore could not be broken by man.
This friendship was so strong not even the king could damage it. In first Samuel twenty Jonathan hid David from Saul. Jonathan defied his father, the king, for his best friend in God. His love for David was that great. Christ has that type of love for us. How many people do you know would take that type of whipping for you and die that type of horrid death for you. Don't worry I will wait for your response. I will dare to say not many if any. Let us learn from Jonathan and David and practice Godly friendships. TO GOD BE THE GLORY! AMEN!
