Halloween is (usually) a time for kids to dress up, hit the town and gorge themselves on candy and try not to get nightmares. So it comes as no surprise that New York City has plenty of options to keep the kiddies safe and sound (well, except for their teeth) while they saunter around in bed sheets and cardboard boxes.

There are all sorts of family friendly events happening in Brooklyn for Halloween, and I suggest by starting with Boo at the Zoo at the Prospect Park Zoo. On Halloween Eve, kids and their folks can attend this Halloween festival for free (with zoo admission). There's going to be face-painting, arts and crafts and a haunted barn tour that will be sure to have parents stocking up on industrial strength nightlights (just kidding!).

If you think that your kids can stand something a little scarier, you should head over to Prospect Park for their annual Haunted Walk. From 12pm-3pm there will be ghouls scattered around Lookout Hill; witches, zombies and the like will be hiding in the bushes and behind trees. Better stay on your toes! Once you finish with the walk, check out the carnival on the Nethermead which will feature games, treats and lots of other fun activities. The best part is that it's free!

There are plenty of fun options to keep the kids happy on Halloween. Brooklynites have a special place in Prospect Park so make sure you make the most of these events this Halloween weekend!
