Fringe is Expected to Be Huge Hit for FOX

J.J Abrams is Bring His Formula for Lost Over to FOX with the Television Drama Fringe

Joshua Cook
You can tell when a television network seems to be banking on a new fall show pretty easily, especially when you see that network advertising and pushing a television show before the summer season even starts. This is the case with the new FOX television drama Fringe set to air this fall, tentatively scheduled for a September 9 premier date. This got me really wondering what is special about Fringe that FOX would start pushing this television show so early.

The logical first place you would start when finding out about any show is its story. What is it about Fringe that makes it such interesting television? The official FOX Fringe website is toting it as "a new drama that will thrill, terrify, and explore the blurring line between science fiction and reality", but great television tag lines are a dime a dozen. The story starts when an international flight comes in to land at Boston Logan Airport, only to show the world that all the passengers have died vicious deaths. Enter our heroine, FBI Special Agent Olivia Dunham - played by Anna Torv - and her partner Special Agent John Scott - played by Mark Valley. Agent Scott is almost murdered while investigating the bizarre deaths surrounding this international flight and the, now dead, passengers upon it. This forces Agent Dunham to search for answers, which leads her to a scientist that has been institutionalized for the last twenty years. After bring in his son to help her question this scientist, they meet up with a corporate executive and another FBI agent. This little group will find out that there is a lot more to the big picture than just what happened on Flight 627.

Now if this sounds vaguely familiar to another hit television show on the air right now, that would be because one of the biggest creative minds behind ABC television's hit Lost is an exec producer on Fringe. J.J. Abrams, who brought the world the tragic, and often confusing, story of the Oceanic survivors on Lost, brings us Fringe. This is why this television drama is calling for so much attention, to tell you the truth. The story is actually a cookie-cutter mystery format, which has not been new since Lost first aired. Knowing that the pilot at the helm of that great television classic is also helping fly this new plane into our living rooms, really gives me a little more confidence.

Couple that line of thinking with the fact that the premier has been leaked on the net and is receiving decent reviews, FOX television may have the next great mystery television series on their hands. You can watch the Fringe television trailer here, and decide this fall if it is as good as Lost.

I read about this show in a newspaper review. All asked, say it will be a winner. My oldest daughter is one of the ones who will it thus. Or so she said.
