Fritz's Snack Bar in Oxford, Connecticut for an Old Fashion Breakfast and Lunch

Roz Zurko
Go back in time to the days when a hamburger was juicy and the milkshakes were made with scoops of ice cream and milk instead of a pre-mix concoction. Remember when a hamburger tastes like a hamburger?

You can go back to these tastier times if you are anywhere near Oxford, Connecticut. "Fritz's Snack Bar" has not changed a thing about the old fashion burgers, dogs, sandwiches, and fries to compete with the fast food of today. This is lucky for you and everyone else that stops there for breakfast and lunch.

"Fritz's Snack Bar" is a modest building on Route 67, which is Oxford Rd. They are open for breakfast and lunch. The breakfast food is again what you would expect to get in a diner from decades ago. Buttermilk pancakes, real bacon, real sausage, and eggs prepared any way that you want them are just a few of the main items offered for the first meal of the day.

The home fries are done just like they have been for years, nothing frozen, powdered, dried, or pre packaged. The home fries are done from potatoes and fried up when you order them.

"Fritz's" is one of the few establishments that opens at 5:30am. They open their doors at this hour every morning, Monday through Saturday. Sunday they open at 7am. The restaurant starts to see their breakfast customers pile up fast within the first half hour that they are open. The breakfast is hot and fast, with friendly and efficient staff. Your coffee cup will never be empty while you eat your breakfast.

Fritz serves lunch and breakfast the entire time they are open for business. The only thing that doesn't get rave reviews at Fritz's is its closing time. They close at 2pm, except for Sunday, which their closing time is at 1pm sharp. The food is so good that if you find yourself riding by anytime after the early closing hour, you are disappointed!

"Fritz's Snack Bar" is well known in town and if it is just a given that people time their lunches around the restaurant's hours.

The restaurant is very clean and offers nothing fancy, just home cooking comfortable booths and tables, along with a large counter to eat at. They do a large "take-out" business and they are happy to take your to-go order no matter how busy they are.

The prices resemble those of days gone by, they are more than reasonable.

Don't let the packed parking lots fool you, there is plenty of room and service is at its best when the restaurant is "jamming," which it normally is. "Fritz's" parking lot is so large, you will never be without a place to park.
