From Baby Book to Facebook

''I sent you a friend request. Again.''

I say to my son while I am cooking dinner.

''I ignored it again Mom. Nice try.''

I feign heartbreak over the boiling spaghetti noodles.

''My son loves his invisible internet friends more than his own mother''. Not a fan of my dramatics my son says

'' sft'' (sorry for that)

Ouch I think and I am sure it registers on my face.

''j/k mom'' (just kidding) says my overly fond of abbreviations son.

" I won't embarrass you , I promise"

"WTF, Mom''(what the freak) he whines out of impatience and hunger. Perhaps it was the guilt or the garlic bread but he sent me a friend request next time he logged on to Facebook.

It wasn't for the snoop factor as I am sure my son suspects but to stay connected with him. I want to be a part of his world both IRL (in real life) and online. Obviously teens don't care to share cyberspace with their parents. I can understand him wanting to avoid embarrassment so I won't post his baby pictures, no matter how adorable I think they are. I will avoid questioning his profile status if its meaning isn't immediately clear to me and I will resist the temptation to write goofy stuff on his Facebook wall. It brought a huge smile to my face though when he acknowledged my presence on Facebook by sending me a piece of flair until I read it. ''Get off Facebook and make me food.''

What a smart alec!

It's not much better when you Facebook with your husband who sits less than 10 feet away from ya!! It's how we "connect" LOL
