I have been reading novels by Stephen King for as long as I can remember. I could pretty much say each one that I read became my favorite, until the next one came out. I bought "From a Buick 8" just because Stephen King wrote it and I was working to complete my library of everything he wrote.
The works of Stephen King is not to everyone's liking. He mostly writes horror with a sadistic twist. His sense of humor is lost on some people, but I find his writing style to be very entertaining. Of course, since I bought the novel, "From a Buick 8", I planned to read it. I didn't just collect his books; I read every one of them.
Any Stephen King fan will remember "Christine." They have either read the book, seen the movie or both. Old car buffs especially were drawn to "Christine," the evil Plymouth. In "From a Buick 8" Stephen King once again writes to the old car buffs because the focal point of the story is an old Buick Roadmaster that was found abandoned at a gas station.
The Trooper that took the call to retrieve the old Buick has a feeling there is something not quite right about this car and he and a fellow trooper hide it out in some secret sheds behind the police barracks. This car was found in 1979 and was left hidden for years.
The Buick is rediscovered in 2001 by a curious teenager and the crazy evil stuff that Stephen King is known for emerges all over again. The Buick could be Christine's evil sister. If you scare easily or have a squeamish stomach this novel is probably not for you.
King wrote this novel with historical accuracy combined with a bit of speculation and warped humor, as only he can do. At times you may even believe him and at other times you may laugh at the absurdity of it all.
If you are a Stephen King fan and you haven't read "From a Buick 8", I would recommend picking up a copy. Even if you are not a fan, but enjoy old car stories this may be the novel that will make you become a fan.

Post a CommentI'm a King freak as well, "The Stand" is MY favorite novel.
I'm definitely picking this one up, thanks.
It is amazing how books are like that. I have a few authors whose books I read and say "wow, that is my favorite and then suddenly, the next one comes out and seems even better!" Great writing! Thanks for sharing.
