From Complexities to Simplicities

April Higney
In this maddening, saddening world full of heartache,
to which we bend, and bend,
trying hard not to break.
Watching our world, where so much can change in the blink of an eye,
and we try, and we try,
sometimes hard not to cry.
Revolving and changing, evolving and arranging,
analyzing it all within the mind,
reaching, ever, reaching,
for much the heart yearns to find.
From the many complexities,
attempting to change into simplicities,
to better understand,
understand with ease.
Erasing, replacing, in empty lonely spaces,
trying, trying, to touch the light,
even just the lingering traces.
I see, I see, far beyond just me,
holding tight, holding tight, this dream in the night,
the shadow illuminated,
a smile, a smile, in a single candle,
in the sparkle of one person's eyes, light.
