From Me, to Society

Written by My Brother, Dave Lawson

I seek out intelligence, but all I can find
Is arrogance, and people not thinking their mind
What's popular and in? What's trendy this week?
What more can be done to dilute your mystique?
Surrendering what's you, for mindless critique
You've lost who you are in this pop glam technique

Stop for a second and hang up your phones
Look at your clothes, you all look like clones
Dressing in fancy and glittery tones
Lined up at the mall like zombies and drones
I doubt you wear that for original aim
Otherwise you wouldn't all look the same
But I guess that's what's cool, you all have no shame
I guess its all part of the glamorous game

All I can see is a mind with no thought
A beautiful body, that's easily bought
Disappointing it is how easy you keep
The styles and the antics of all of these sheep
If you want to get more out of me than a scoff
Say something intelligent, that'll throw me off.

I have to say, I agree with what he's saying. I love the last two lines especially. Nicely done.

I've been sharing all the comments with my brother. He's enjoying the feedback. Especially knowing that so many good writers have such good things to say about his poem. :)

Incredibly well written, and sadly, poetically true. I think it should be placed in magazines next to all the glamour shots that are destroying the true realities of life in some people. Excellent! Enjoyed very much, straight to the point! :)

Good choice of words and the message is one I totally agree with. TX
