From Russia with Love - a PS2 Game Review

Walter Kovacs
James Bond's From Russia with Love is a great 007 game for the PS2. It has graphics, realism, and a great story line. The areas are nicely crafted, and the game is just dificult enough to be challenging. The multiplayer is great, as well as the moss battles.

So let's start with the gameplay. From Russia with Love has a great control scheme and gameplay. To lock on to a traget, all you have to do is press and hold the L1 Button. To fire, but press the R1 button. This makes the game easy enough for anyone over the age of nine to play it. There is also a new feature to this game called Bond Focus. When you are locked on to a traget, you can press the Square button. This will pull up a tiny yellow dot. You can aim this dot witht he right analog stick. This dot can be moved anywhere on the target's body. If you want a 1 shot quiet kill, you can shoot the assailant in the head. If you want a 1 shot load kill (use these to distract bad guys) you can shoot the granade in the guy's pocket. This will make a loud explosion.

Next let's move on to the graphics. These (as many games do) utilize the full power of the PS2. The graphics can only get so good on a 6 year old console. The people are crisp and clear, as well as the environments. The moving parts of all the levels work extremely well. The videos, as always, are much better standard then the game.

Finally, we have the multiplayer. In From Russia with Love, you have the option of being the villains in multiplayer. You face off against friends (who are other villains) in split screen mode. You can set up the game in a veriety of ways. Most kills after a period of time, longest survival, or first to however many kills wins. As you progress through the game, you can unlock villains from other Bond movies (such as Goldfinger and Doctor No). There are fun items to use, such as army trucks, jetpacks, and classic cars (outfitted with weapons, of course).

I really like this game, and I hope you will too. This game has been around for a while, but it is truly timeless. It has 3 levels of difficulty (Operative, Agent, and 00 Agent), each of which are significantly more difficult than the one before it. I play the game on 00 Agent, but that is because I have been playing for more than 2 years.

This game costs about $20 on eBay, and it costs about $25 MSRP. I really like this game, and I hope you do too. This game is rated T for Teen for Suggestive Themes and Violence.

This is a great game that I just picked up at a local Gamestop for around $5. I mean, come on, it's Sean Connery! I've really had fun with it and I think other Bond fans will as well.
