These girls became "Yankee Fans" around the same time Derek Jeter came into the leauge. They start trying to understand the game of baseball, wearing the gear, and going to games in hopes their favorite star will recognize them and possibly marry them. a fantasy world if you may. What makes this annoying is not their lack of knowledge or purpose to the world of sports, nor is that I would love to be in that position, but I would like to enjoy a simple sporting event without having to hear a 18 year old girl scream "I Love you, Over here, or Have my babies" at a sports game. The front runners have im sure, always been around. From the Lakers and Celtics eras, to the Boston Red Sox turn around. I see this with the new Rutgers Football team as well.
People love to be a part of something without knowing what it is they are engaging in. It seems harmless and it may be to some. But to the intergity to the game its not. It takes the passion and pride from a team built from the ground up and puts it into a new light based on the looks of a player or the excitement of a winning streak. My thoughts...be original, love a team for what they stand for, for what they went though to make it where they are today...Front runners, Knock it off. If you truly want to find true fans. Ask any "Yankee" fan who was the shortstop before Jeter, and dont hold your breath for a response..and btw...lets make a bet. How many Celtics fans will there be by the end of this NBA season?
