Front's New Front Will Be in Dumbo

Front Inc. (Front) is a design and façade consulting practice currently located in downtown Manhattan. According to its website the people at Front are "specialists in architectural façade systems for new construction." Simply put, they help to design the exterior of buildings. I've seen some of Front's work on the Internet as well as in Manhattan, and gorgeous is an understatement.

Now, Front is moving to Dumbo, reports Crain's. Its lease in Manhattan is expiring this year, so Front was looking for new digs. It found 10,000 square feet at $25 per square foot at 20 Jay Street. Front is reportedly making the move because "At this moment, most of our work is national and international so we no longer felt that a Manhattan presence was necessary," reports Crain's. Also, 60% of Front's employees live in Brooklyn.

I'll bet the difference in rent between Manhattan and Brooklyn was a consideration, as well, along with the revitalization of downtown Brooklyn.

Front is working on the Atlantic Yards' Barclay Center and projects all over the world.

It plans to move to Dumbo by the end of next month and has signed a 10-year lease. So, Front should be part of the community for awhile.
