Frozen Apple Juice Review: Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice

This Juice was Very Inexpensive but Overall it Did Not Provide the Taste My Son and I Like

I am always looking for ways to cut cost on groceries but some times this leads me to cutting cost on nutrition which I do not like to do. Recently I have been getting apple juice so it is regularly in the house, and decided that I would try some frozen apple juice. I would put the apple juice to the test, see if my son and I liked it as much and see if it saved us money without costing us nutrition or taste. The apple juice that we tried for this was Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice.

The Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice fit the description of inexpensive because it was only $1.13, which was cheaper than Cascadian Farm Organic Apple Juice. However when I got home from the grocery store and made it I discovered that it only made 48 fl oz. While it was still cheap per fl oz, even cheaper than other apple juices, it did not make as much that is drank in this house every week. In addition it did not taste as good as other apple juices that were not made from frozen concentrate. This made me not want to add more water than is required because it would make it less than 100% apple juice and it would likely bring down the overall flavor even more. At this point I did not think that we would get it too often but I was still curious about the ingredients and nutrition facts.

Each serving of the Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice listed 2% for iron and 120% for vitamin C. This is pretty standard for apple juices that have added vitamin C, so I was not surprised when I saw that the ingredients included vitamin C. The ingredients were apple juice concentrate, filtered water, malic acid and ascorbic acid. The remaining nutrition facts included 25 milligrams of sodium, 280 milligrams of potassium, 29 grams of total carbohydrates and 27 grams of sugars. The nutrition facts were actually very similar to other apple juices as were the ingredients. Honestly these two things were not the reason I decided against getting this juice too often.

I considered getting this juice again, just so I could have some frozen apple juice tucked away in the freezer in case we run out. However it will not become the apple juice that we get regularly. I would suggest that someone try out Old Orchard 100% Apple Juice but explain to them that the apple juice flavor is not as rich. I have to give it credit for being nutritious and cheap but the taste is a big factor in this house. Even my son liked other apple juices a little bit more, and he is not very picky when it comes to juice.
