Frozen Bananas for Kids with Food Allergies

M. Kaye Hash
Food allergies are tough for anyone of any age but for kids with food allergies it can be even more difficult. I was diagnosed with a dairy allergy at the age of 14. This was over 15 years ago and at that time there was no where near the plethora of information and foods available now for parents of kids with food allergies.

Frozen bananas are a great treat. Not only are the healthy but they are easy to make, kids (and adults) absolutely love them, and for kids with food allergies they are a treat you don't have to worry about that your children can share with their friends.

Frozen Bananas for kids with food allergies

Ingredients:

Bunch of bananas

Dark chocolate (check the ingredients for allergen information)

1 cup soy yogurt (if your child is allergic to soy then leave this out)

toppings (based on your kids food allergies you can choose nuts, granola, sprinkles or just leave them off!)

popsicle sticks

Directions:

Cut large bananas in half, or use whole small bananas, and place them on popsicle sticks. Dip in yogurt. Roll in chocolate. Roll in toppings then freeze on cookie sheet. Once frozen, you can place in a freezer bag for an easy to grab snack. You may find that freezing after dipping in yogurt then quickly rolling in chocolate and toppings and freezing again works well, too.

This treat isn't just for kids with food allergies but for everyone so the food allergies sufferer doesn't feel left out of what the rest of the family is having. It is much easier to deal with food allergies than it was even just a few years ago. Almost everything has a substitution that is allergen free. Many items are becoming available at your local grocery store, just about everyone carries soy milk now, but if you are having trouble finding substitutions then visit your local health food store. They will most likely be able to steer you in the right direction.
